During his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, who is facing rebellion from numerous figures within the party, offered to quit citing bad health, according to reports.
It is now up to the BJP high command to determine whether to accept it, according to insiders, who add that if the party decides to replace Mr Yediyurappa, a leadership change is probable by July 26, when his present term ends.
In the national capital, the Chief Minister met with BJP heavyweights Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, and Amit Shah.
“Amit Shah said that you need to put in more effort for the party in Karnataka. Our best wishes go out to you. We must win all of the seats in Karnataka, just like we did in Uttar Pradesh. All of this was discussed. He believes Karnataka has a bright future. We absolutely agree with you. Yesterday, the Prime Minister stated the same thing “BS Yediyurappa said as he walked out from Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence.
Mr. Yediyurappa, who travelled to Delhi with his son on a chartered aeroplane for meetings with the BJP leadership, has formally dismissed any possibility of a leadership transition in Karnataka. He laughed at reporters’ queries and tossed them back yesterday following his meeting with the Prime Minister: “There hasn’t been any talk of a leadership change that I’m aware of. So, you’re telling me?”
The two leaders addressed many projects, including the Bengaluru Peripheral Ring Road project and the Mekedatu project, according to a statement from the 78-year-old Chief Minister’s office.
According to sources, state Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Mines Minister Murugesh Nirani, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi are the most likely candidates for the Chief Ministership.
