On Sunday, former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa urged Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to reverse his decision to elevate him to cabinet position. In a letter to Bommai that was made public, Yediyurappa wrote, “I want you to provide me only those amenities that are provided to an immediate former chief minister and remove the decision assigning me a cabinet rank.”
On Saturday, Bommai ordered Yediyurappa to be given ministerial-level amenities. On July 26, Yediyurappa announced his resignation, which coincided with the end of his two-year term in office.
At the BJP legislature party meeting the day after his resignation, Yediyurappa submitted Bommai’s name as the new leader, which was unanimously accepted, and on July 28, Bommai was sworn in as the new Chief Minister.
