Afghanistan Crisis Discussed in Talks Between US Secretary of State Blinken and EAM Jaishankar

On Saturday, US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken spoke with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar about a wide range of shared priorities, including sustained cooperation on Afghanistan and at the UN.

“Secretary Blinken and Minister Jaishankar agreed to work closely together on common goals and priorities in order to strengthen the US-India relationship “In an official statement, US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said.

“Spoke to US Secretary of State @Secblinken,” Jaishankar wrote on Twitter. We continued to talk about Afghanistan. They also discussed the UNSC’s agenda.”

Since the commencement of evacuation operations on August 14, about 1,11,000 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan, according to the Pentagon.

On the other side, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Thursday that it has evacuated 565 individuals from Afghanistan, including 112 Afghan nations, since the Taliban seized control of Kabul. The MEA, led by Jaishankar, discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan’s pre-emptive and evacuation plans.

On August 15, the Taliban gained control of Afghanistan. Their unexpected success, which comes as the United States prepares to leave the country after a 20-year war, has caused turmoil at Kabul’s airport, where the United States and its partners are attempting to safely evacuate thousands of residents and allies.
