In the absence of Ashraf Ghani, former first vice-president Amrullah Saleh has claimed to be the caretaker president of Afghanistan.
On Tuesday, Amrullah Saleh made the remark on Twitter. He said that the Afghan constitution gave him the authority to proclaim this. “Reaching out to all leaders to achieve their support and consensus,” he wrote.
Taking to Twitter, he said, “As per the constitution of Afghanistan in absence, escape, resignation or death of the President, the FVP becomes the caretaker President. I am currently inside my country and am the legitimate caretaker President. Am reaching out to all leaders to secure their support and consensus.”

Amrullah Saleh declared on Sunday that he will not bend to the Taliban under any circumstances.
Saleh took to Twitter to express his displeasure with the situation, writing: “I will never, ever, and under any circumstances submit to the terrorists of D Talib. I will never betray the soul and heritage of my hero, Commander, Legend, and Guide Ahmad Shah Masoud. I will not disappoint the millions of people who listened to me. With Taliban, I’ll never be under one roof. NEVER.”
After the Taliban zeroed in on Kabul and gained control, Afghanistan’s former president, Ashraf Ghani, departed the country.
He announced on social media on Monday that he had left the country to prevent bloodshed. However, Ashraf Ghani has not revealed his current location.
Former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani stated that if he had not departed the country, the city of 6 million people would have faced a major humanitarian calamity.
