Harak Singh Rawat, a former minister and expelled BJP leader, has rejoined the Congress party in Uttarakhand ahead of the state’s assembly elections on February 14. In the presence of former Chief Minister Harish Rawat and other important figures, he joined the Congress. The Congress welcomed Harak Singh back to the party, saying that his return demonstrates that the political wind in the state has shifted. Harak Singh’s experience and public connections, according to the statement, will enhance the party.
Harak Singh stated that the Congress party’s clear majority victory would be his sincere apologies to the party. He defected from the Congress, which was in office at the time, and joined the BJP in 2016. Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, who led the government at the time, had also warned against Rawat’s return to the Congress, citing the 2016 incident.
“That will be my apology when Congress obtains a complete majority on March 10.” I was really offended because the BJP thought of me as a ‘use and toss’ candidate…. Harak Singh Rawat claimed, “I didn’t break my ties with Home Minister Amit Shah till the very last moment, as I had promised.” On January 19, he met with senior Congress officials in New Delhi and promised to win at least 10 seats for the party.
After he allegedly sought to exert pressure on the party leadership to grant tickets to his daughter-in-law Anukriti Gusain, the BJP expelled him from the party. He, on the other hand, had refuted the charges.
Harak Singh Rawat, an MLA from Kotdwar, is expected to obtain a ticket from the seat again this time. According to rumours, he was looking for a Lansdowne ticket for his daughter-in-law. Local Congress leaders had cautioned the party not to run Gusain in the district.
On February 14, Uttarakhand voters will vote in a single phase, with results announced on March 10.
