In June of this year, Jio revealed its next entry-level Android smartphone, the JioPhone Next. The specifications for the handset, which is set to be released in September as the world’s cheapest smartphone, have already made their way onto the internet.
A series of tweets has now revealed some of the features and specifications of the JioPhone Next. A 1440×720 pixel resolution and a 13-megapixel camera at the back are among the highlights from the Twitter thread.
Mishaal Rahman, Editor-in-Chief of XDA Developers, revealed details about the impending entry-level Android smartphone on Twitter. The JioPhone Next, according to his tweets, will run Android 11 (Go Edition) and have the model number LS-5701-J.
A Qualcomm QM215 SoC will power the smartphone, which will have an HD+ (1440×720 pixels) display. For graphics, the 64-bit quad-core processor will be coupled with Qualcomm’s Adreno 308 GPU.
A built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon X5 LTE modem, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, LPDDR3 RAM, and eMMC 4.5 storage are among the other features of the JioPhone Next. A single 13-megapixel camera on the back and an 8-megapixel selfie camera on the front will handle the optics. Up to 1080p video recording will be possible with this camera.
All of the JioPhone Next’s specifications were accompanied with a screenshot of the phone’s boot screen. An animation reading out “JioPhone Next Created with Google” appeared on the screen. Several Google-powered apps, including Google DuoGo and Google Camera Go, are pre-installed on the smartphone.
The apps and animations clearly build on Google and Jio’s partnership, which was announced in 2020. Google had spent more than Rs 33,000 crore in Jio at the time. The goal was to make a low-cost smartphone with “improvements to the Android operating system and the Play Store.”
As a result, JioPhone Next is the culmination of nearly a year of collaboration between the two companies. According to previous reports, the JioPhone Next will be manufactured in Gujarat. According to sources in the Gujarat state government, Google representatives had previously visited the state to look at potential locations for a factory.
