On Saturday, Kalyan Singh, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and a BJP veteran, died in Lucknow at the age of 89. On July 4, Singh was hospitalised to the city’s Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to an infection and a low level of consciousness.
Singh died of sepsis and multi-organ failure, according to a statement released by the SGPGIMS on Saturday night. The state of Uttar Pradesh has declared three days of mourning.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief and condoled the demise of the senior leader Kalyan Singh. “I am saddened beyond words. Kalyan Singh Ji…statesman, veteran administrator, grassroots level leader and great human. He leaves behind an indelible contribution towards the development of Uttar Pradesh. Spoke to his son Shri Rajveer Singh and expressed condolences. Om Shanti,” he said in a tweet.
“Kalyan Singh Ji offered a voice to millions of people who live on the margins of society. “He made various initiatives to empower farmers, young people, and women,” stated the prime minister.
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also offered his condolences and prayed for the departed soul.
Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister, paid a visit to a prominent leader who was in “critical” condition on Friday “I inquired about his health and condition.
“Kalyan Singh’s health is critical, and he is on life support,” says the statement “On Friday, the hospital issued a statement. Doctors were keeping a tight eye on him, according to the report.
Singh has previously been treated at Lucknow’s Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences.
The 89-year-old senior leader has also served as Rajasthan’s governor. According to the statement, Adityanath was taken to the hospital by Medical Education Minister Suresh Khanna.
