The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is targeting leaders from other parties in Tripura to expand its support as part of its “look east” strategy. According to sources, some important Tripura politicians are in contact with the TMC to switch sides. Opponents of Chief Minister Biplab Deb have already made inroads with the TMC leadership. Some of them have also been to Kolkata.
Sudip is Biplab Dev’s boogeyman. In the minds of those who have been adamantly opposed to the CM, Roy Burman’s name comes first. Though Burman could not be reached for comment, insiders claim that conversations are ongoing and may be nearing completion.
Some significant leaders from Kolkata will arrive in Tripura in the first week of September, and some biggies will join them.
The TMC also intends to establish a presence in Assam. In Assam, a special membership campaign will begin. According to sources, several Assam Gana Parishad leaders are also in contact with the TMC.
Currently, AGP is with the BJP, but if the BJP wins five more seats in by-elections, they will no longer need AGP.
However, the TMC remains tight-lipped about its northeast plan for the time being.
In the political world, there is also talk that the TMC could unseat the BJP administration in Tripura. However, reports claim that the TMC high command is opposed to this because the election is scheduled for 2023, and they intend to fight the election and win. According to sources, Tripura will see significant changes in the coming week.
