Rename Aligarh to ‘Harigarh’, District Panchayat Sends Proposal to UP Government

The Aligarh district panchayat has submitted a request to the Uttar Pradesh government to change the city’s name to ‘Harigarh.’ Another idea to rename Firozabad district Chandra Nagar is circulating.

Many cities and railway stations in Uttar Pradesh have had their names changed in recent years, with Allahabad-Prayagraj being the most noteworthy.

Many organisations had previously petitioned the Uttar Pradesh government to change Aligarh’s name.

The proposal was sent this time by members of the newly formed district panchayat. In fact, the Kshastriya Mahasabha originally brought the plan to the panchayat, which was later backed by elected members Kehri Singh and Umesh Yadav.

The plan was subsequently approved by the district panchayat in a unanimous vote.

The Uttar Pradesh government will make the final decision in this matter.

Vijay Singh, who is connected to former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh’s son Rajveer Singh Raju, leads the district pacnhayat in Aligarh.

The Aligarh district panchayat has also written to the Uttar Pradesh government, requesting that the future Aligarh mini-airport be named after Kalyan Singh.

This suggestion, which comes only six months before the 2022 UP Assembly elections, is expected to become a talking issue.

Soon after the central government renamed the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awards to Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna awards, a group of BJP legislators and a state minister met with CM Yogi Adityanath to demand a change in the names of districts, cities, and towns.
