Rishabh Pant made his Test debut in 2018 during India’s tour of the United Kingdom. No one could have predicted that the child would go on to become a match-winner and a power-hitter batsman. Pant will finish three years of Test cricket in the forthcoming five-match series between India and England. Pant had played some T20I cricket before making his Test debut, but his bat screamed and shone during the England Tests. Pant is unafraid to hit sixes in a format where batsmen typically build their innings steadily. In the third Test match he played, he managed to score his first Test century.
The difference between 2018 and 2021 is that Pant’s reputation is now on the line. The batsman-form wicketkeeper’s in Test matches has been outstanding, as evidenced by his scores in Australia’s Test and home series against England. In the World Test Championship final versus New Zealand, he was unable to generate the needed momentum.
Pant and Team India will now try to put the defeat in the WTC final behind them and begin the new championship cycle with a win.
During a recent interview with BCCI.tv regarding his international cricket adventure thus far, the batsman disclosed the four people to whom he seeks assistance. He picked India captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma as his mentors among batters. He said that his two older colleagues are always there to help him out ahead of a big series. Pant stated that he enjoys discussing the upcoming games, previous matches, and the game in general with Rohit. The cricketer, on the other hand, consults Virat Kohli for technical advice.
Pant named coach Ravi Shastri and off-spinner R Ashwin in addition to these two experienced hitters. He went on to explain why this was the case. Pant said of coach Ravi Shastri, “I speak to him a lot because he has played enough cricket all around the world, he has the idea.” In the case of Ashwin, the wicketkeeper-batsman remarked that he always has a notion of what the batsman might be capable of.
