Siddharth Pithani, Sushant Singh Rajput’s flatmate, was denied bail in a drugs charge linked to the Bollywood actor’s death in June 2020 by a special NDPS Mumbai court on Wednesday. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) apprehended Pithani on May 28 this year in Hyderabad, and he is currently in judicial custody.
He was charged with violating the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act’s section 27 (A) (funding illicit commerce and sheltering offenders), among other things. Pithani had applied for bail, saying that he had been falsely accused in a case. According to the bail application, he was never found in possession of any drugs and nothing was collected from him that may indicate he was involved in drug trafficking.
However, special public prosecutor Advait Sethna stated that damning images, videos, and other data found on Pithani’s phone revealed that he used to buy drugs in big quantities while staying with Sushant. After hearing the arguments, special judge V V Vidwans denied the bail request.
Following Sushant Singh Rajput’s reported suicide at his Mumbai home, the NCB launched an investigation into alleged drug supply rackets in the film business, based on some WhatsApp exchanges. Several others, including Rajput’s girlfriend and actor Rhea Chakraborty, were also detained by the CIA. The majority of those arrested have been released on bond.
