WhatsApp, owned by Facebook, is developing message reactions similar to those found on Instagram and Twitter. The addition of message reactions to WhatsApp could be part of Facebook’s drive to improve the app’s functionality. WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp tracker, discovered the functionality, but no users or beta testers will be able to try it out for the time being. According to the source, WhatsApp is presently internal testing the message reaction feature.
WABetaInfo uploaded a screenshot of the feature, which shows a notification that says the user is using an older version of WhatsApp that doesn’t support replies. WABetaInfo posted a screenshot from the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android build. The message reactions functionality will be available on the online and desktop clients, as well as the Android and iOS apps. This will be akin to the message reactions we’ve seen on platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger, where users can simply respond to a message with an emotion (emoji) rather than replying.
WhatsApp is now working on providing multi-device compatibility to the platform, which would allow users to access WhatsApp across numerous devices without having to log in each time.
WhatsApp recently announced the introduction of a public beta for its desktop client, allowing Windows and macOS users to test out all of the new features coming to the WhatsApp desktop software.
