According to an Indian Express article, the Governor of Meghalaya met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss farmers’ difficulties, during which he reportedly had a fight with the latter.
“When I saw the Prime Minister on the problem of farmers, I had a fight with him within five minutes,” Malik said later on Sunday at an event in Haryana’s Dadri. He was oozing with arrogance. When I told him that 500 of our people had died, he asked, “Did they die for me?” As you are the King, I said they killed for you.”
PM Modi then asked Malik to meet with Home Minister Amit Shah, according to Malik.
The Governor of Meghalaya stated that the Centre should try to remove cases against farmers and provide MSP with a legal basis. He told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri where he was honoured by the Phogat Khap that the farmers’ agitation has merely been suspended and that if there is any injustice, it will resume.
“The government must strive honestly to drop the proceedings against farmers and provide a legislative framework (guarantee) on MSP. The government is in charge of this “In answer to a query, he stated.
“However, the government’s assumption that the agitation has ended is incorrect. It’s only been put on hold. If there is any injustice or abuses among farmers, the uproar will erupt once more “Added he.
Farmers should take use of the opportunity now that the farm laws have been overturned to get decisions made in their favour, such as a legal foundation for MSP, according to Malik. “I am always with farmers,” Malik stated in response to his remark that he was not afraid of being asked to resign from his role.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure as Prime Minister, Malik was appointed governor of Jammu & Kashmir and Goa before being assigned to Meghalaya.
