Opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have attacked Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu for allegedly shifting his stance on illicit liquor and the sand mafia.
“Before becoming Punjab Congress chairman, Sidhu was known for talking too much about the sand and liquor mafias. He boarded a politician’s vehicle that was involved in illegal mining, then had lunch and dinner with a guy accused of selling illegal liquor “, claimed Meet Hayer, an AAP MLA.
The Shiromani Akali Dal has also attacked Navjot Sidhu for his Sunday statements blaming the Badals of empty coffers, unemployment, and state exchequer losses.
Sukhbir Badal, the head of the Shiromani Akali Dal, questioned Navjot Sidhu’s vow to deliver cheaper electricity at Rs 3 per unit if the Congress wins power again on Tuesday.
“Navjot Sidhu is a politician who doesn’t take himself seriously. When he was awarded the position of power minister, he fled. Now he’s talking about providing low-cost electricity to the state’s residents. The Congress has taken control of the government. Who’s to say they won’t announce free power now?” Sukhbir Badal interrogated.
In response to a media enquiry concerning Navjot Singh Sidhu’s demand that the results of the Punjab Police SIT on synthetic narcotics be made public, Badal stated Sidhu was hobnobbing with the drug mafia himself.
“Navjot Sidhu is surrounded by Congress MLAs who are supplying narcotics. He’s also facing a vigilance case, which has been put on hold thanks to Priyanka Vadra’s involvement “Sukhbir Badal expressed his thoughts.
The appointment of Malvinder Singh Mali as Navjot Sidhu’s counsel has also backfired.
Opposition leaders questioned Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi over Mali’s declaration that Kashmir was a “distinct nation” in one of his tweets.
“Malvinder Mali, Navjot Sidhu’s advisor, sent a contentious tweet about Kashmir, describing it as an independent country. Rahul Gandhi should say whether he was in Mali and, if not, what action he intends to take against Navjot Sidhu “Bikram Majithia expressed his thoughts.
Some of Sidhu’s previous blunders, such as accepting Imran Khan’s invitations and hugging Pak Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, are still haunting him.
After Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s statue was vandalised in Lahore, prominent BJP leader Tarun Chugh questioned Sidhu’s devotion to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
“During Imran Khan’s presidency, why was Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s statue in Lahore vandalised three times? Has Sidhu lost the ability to speak for India and its people?” Tarun Chugh enquired.
It’s worth noting that Navjot Sidhu unleashed a stinging attack on the Badals and Bikram Majithia on Sunday, blaming them squarely for the state’s bad budgetary condition. Sidhu has also been questioned by the BJP on a number of matters.
