Amit Shah is in Meghalaya on a two-day visit to meet with the chief ministers of the seven Northeastern states

Home Minister Amit Shah will spend two days in Shillong, where he will host a conference with the Chief Ministers of eight Northeastern states to discuss interstate border concerns, according to sources.

During his visit, Shah also has several official activities in Meghalaya. Officials added that on Saturday, Shah will host a closed-door meeting with the chief ministers, chief secretaries, and police chiefs of all NE states, where the chief ministers are expected to discuss, among other things, the region’s interstate boundary issues.

Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim are among the northeastern states.

Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Mizoram all have border disputes with Assam.

The Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawiong on the outskirts of Shillong and the Cryogenic Plant at the New Shillong Township will be inaugurated, according to officials. On Sunday, the union minister will visit Sohra (formerly Cherrapunji) to open an afforestation project, the Greater Sohra Water Supply Scheme, and the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram there.

Officials claimed security has been tightened up here ahead of the visit of the Union Home Minister. According to them, police and paramilitary personnel have been ordered to remain vigilant, maintain a strict vigil, and increase monitoring in the city, particularly around the site and the roads leading to the ISBT and New Shillong Township, where Shah is due to launch both projects.

As part of the security measures, a mock drill to ensure the seamless transportation of the union minister cavalcade from the helicopter to the venue has been conducted since Thursday. Despite the lockdown being loosened to avoid any law and order difficulties, the district administration has ordered all markets and business enterprises to close on Saturday and Sunday, according to a senior home department official.

In all of the places the minister is expected to visit during his two-day tour to the state beginning Saturday, he said, all required measures are being taken in coordination with the state police, central agencies, and paramilitary forces.
