Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra expressed his thanks on Sunday for the opportunity to attend the Red Fort Independence Day celebrations. Neeraj took to his official Twitter account to say that attending the Independence Day ceremonies at the historic Red Fort on Sunday was an “honour.”

“It was an honour to attend the Independence Day celebrations at the historic Red Fort today. As an athlete and a soldier, my heart is full of emotion when I see the national flag flying high. Jai Hind,” Neeraj tweeted.

Several medalists from the Tokyo Olympics, including Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, and Mirabai Chanu, were present during the Red Fort’s 75th Independence Day celebrations.

“At the Olympics, India’s youth shone brightly. Those athletes are in attendance today “PM Modi then asked everyone in attendance, as well as people across the country, to salute the winners of the Tokyo Olympics.

He started clapping the athletes, and the crowd joined in. Modi remarked, “We can feel proud of the fact that they have not only captured our hearts but have inspired the young of this country.”

On August 7, Neeraj Chopra became India’s first Olympic gold medalist in athletics, and only the second Indian to win a gold medal in an individual event at the Games, following Abhinav Bindra (2008 Beijing Games).

Neeraj Chopra threw the javelin 87.03 metres on his first throw and improved to 87.58 metres on his second throw, but he couldn’t go any higher. Chopra threw 87.03 metres, 87.58 metres, 76.79 metres, and 84.24 metres, but his fourth and fifth throws were dismissed.

Neeraj Chopra’s gold medal is India’s second at the Olympics in the individual category, following Abhinav Bindra’s victory in the 10m Air Rifle shooting event in China.
